-

Nate Jones serves as the Director of the Global Precincts Project. In addition to his work with GPP, Nate is the Assistant Director of Advising and Professional Development with the Program in Environmental Design at the University of Colorado Boulder and a Board Member for Boulder Dushanbe Sister Cities. Nate recently graduated with his Ph.D. in Cultural Anthropology from the City University of New York Graduate Center and undertook his doctoral research in Kazakhstan and Siberia. His dissertation examined how new states cultivate citizenship and a sense of civic nationalism with a focus on Central Asia and Russia. Nate’s current anthropological endeavors involve investigating how indigenization, national identity, and state policies coalesce into professional-level design projects within artistic mediums such as textiles, decorative painting, landscaping, and architecture in Central Asia’s Ferghana Valley.

Beyond his professional work, Nate is a native Utahn and is thrilled to be living

Back in the Mountain West (currently residing in Boulder, Colorado) after a long East Coast stint in Philadelphia, New York City, and Vermont. He loves the typical outdoor recreation activities found in the Colorado Rockies and Utah’s Wasatch Mountains but particularly enjoys high-altitude trail running. Nate is also an avid music listener and occasionally writes for the Bearded Gentlemen music website (https://beardedgentlemenmusic.com).
