THE STORY OF THE BOULDER DUSHANBE TEAHOUSE
A gift of craftsmanship, culture, and friendship
The Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse is one of the most visible symbols of the relationship between Boulder, Colorado and Dushanbe, Tajikistan. Handcrafted by artisans in Dushanbe and rebuilt in Boulder, it represents decades of friendship, collaboration, and cultural exchange.
FROM DUSHANBE TO BOULDER
A GIFT BETWEEN SISTER CITIES
The Teahouse began as a gift from Dushanbe to Boulder, created to honor the friendship between the two cities and celebrate Tajik artistry, craftsmanship, and cultural exchange.

HANDCRAFTED IN DUSHANBE
Artisans in Dushanbe hand-carved, painted, and assembled the Teahouse’s intricate wooden details, columns, ceiling panels, and decorative elements using traditional craftsmanship.
TRANSPORTED ACROSS THE WORLD
After being created in Dushanbe, the Teahouse components were carefully transported to Boulder, where the building would be reconstructed as a permanent symbol of friendship.

REBUILT IN BOULDER
Once in Boulder, the Teahouse was reconstructed and installed with the help of community members, partners, and craftspeople who helped bring the gift to life.

A LIVING SYMBOL TODAY
Today, the Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse remains a beloved landmark and a visible reminder of what Sister Cities relationships can create: cultural exchange, friendship, and connection across borders.
