The
gift to Dushanbe will be much more than just a Cyber Café
-- a restaurant with computer terminals. It's a set of broader
ideals and goals. Boulder-Dushanbe Sister Cities believes this
project will help:
foster
the Sister City purpose of promoting cultural understanding,
stimulate
economic development in Dushanbe by motivating and empowering
private citizens, municipal officials and business leaders to
create relationships with people of the United States and conduct
long-term programs of mutual benefit,
create
a gift, reflecting the American culture, in appreciation for the
gift of a Teahouse from the people of Dushanbe,
create
a community gathering place for fun and enjoyment for people of
all ages and economic backgrounds,
provide
a communicative bridge for learning and fostering communication
between the people of Boulder (and all the world) and the people
of Dushanbe,
provide
computer hardware and software for public access to the World
Wide Web and Internet-based email,
develop
a learning center with print and electronic materials,
provide
a place where people can enjoy food and beverages representative
of Boulder, Colorado and the United States
exhibit,
on a permanent basis, art, crafts, documentary photography, and
documentary video of Boulder and the United States,
create
an architecture and setting that express democratic values and a
humanistic ethic of communication, access to information, and
people interaction, and
demonstrate
resource conservation as well as the use of natural energy
systems and the use of alternative energy.
