BDSC Home


Although much of BDSC's focus has centered around the the Cyber Café and Teahouse projects, many smaller (but just as important) activities have occured over the years:

  • Cultural—sponsorship of cultural exchanges-music, dance, visual art

  • Cultural—organization of citizen tours to Dushanbe and Tajikistan

  • Cultural—participation in local international fairs and festivals

  • Cultural—sponsorship of local educational programs about Tajik culture

  • Cultural—assembly of the Tajik Teahouse, gift of the people of Dushanbe, where Boulder citizens gather in an authentic Tajik environment

  • Educational—sponsorship of high school and university student exchanges

  • Educational—promotion of teacher exchanges

  • Educational—assistance and encouragement with an ongoing relationship between the Boulder Flatirons Elementary School and Dushanbe Pushkin School #20. Last year a group of educators and editors from Tajikistan visited Boulder. The principal of School #20 fortified the relationship with Flatirons Elementary during her visit

  • Medical—sharing of medical knowledge through physician, nurse practitioner, and medical technician exchanges

  • Medical—Boulder Community Hospital and Dushanbe’s City Medical Center partnership to improve medical care in Boulder and Dushanbe in collaboration with the American International Health Alliance (AIHA) (www.aiha.com). Recent activities included family medicine training initiative, a World Bank funded training program for nurses. Boulder Community Hospital is investigating a new partnership with the Aga Khan Foundation to develop a partnership for a health care systems reform project in Tajikistan

  • Environmental—exchange of knowledge about environmental conservancy through special projects

  • Environmental—development of an international Peace Garden along Boulder Creek

  • Business—encouragement of business exchanges to develop trade opportunities

  • Organizational—publication of a newsletter covering Boulder-Dushanbe Sister Cities activities

  • Organizational—co-sponsorship, with the Boulder Public Library and CU's International Film Series, the annual Boulder Festival of Soviet film

  • Ongoing—March annual celebration of Navruz at the Boulder-Dushanbe Teahouse. Navruz celebrates the Tajik and Persian New Year
