Sister Cities International

"When you are among friends, fatigue disappears."
— Maksud Ikramov, former mayor of Dushanbe

We sponsor cultural, educational, medical, and business exchanges between Dushanbe and Boulder. Building an environment where fatigue, as well as distrust and cultural stereotypes, will disappear — this is what citizen diplomacy is all about. Our sister city relationship with Dushanbe is recognized both nationally through Sister Cities International, agencies in the U.S. and Tajikistan, and locally through a protocol agreement between the governments of both cities.

We are in good company. Established by U.S. President Eisenhower in 1956, Sister Cities International now links over 2500 communities with partners in 126 nations around the world, all pledged to the ideal of "people-to-people contacts emphasizing projects of commonality rather than areas of division."
